Band Biography

Off The Radar are a bright sparklingly power pop three piece from the Reading and Oxford area.

Off The Radar have long been one of the most influential power pop bands on the Reading and New York gig circuit, they now deliver THE MOTHER OF ALL POP ALBUMS.

SEEN FROM SPACE is a truly thrilling blend of pop harmony?s and edgy guitar, nicely rapped in a pink ribbon of thunderous punk energy. Think the Beatles and The Kinks having a Guinness Snake Bite drinking competition with The Snags and losing. Think LIFE.

You will never hear a catchier or more passionate album! If you buy at least one album make it SEEN FROM SPACE!

Born from the phenomenon that was the Benson Garage Implosion, passion pop three piece OffTheRadar has been causing a stir since 2001, playing anywhere from house parties to outdoor festivals and picking up a loyal following along the way.

The band's first promo CD was released in May 2002, and immediately created a buzz, with copies finding their way to people all over the UK, Europe and beyond, getting airplay first on Oxford's FusionFM, and then as far afield as the Student Broadcast Network in Germany, and Serbia-Montenegro national radio.

The second CD, "Here It Is!" bagged the boys their first set of dates in New York City in 2003. The mini-tour was such a success that OTR went back in April 2004 for more, playing to enthusiastic audiences and making loads of new friends along the way.

One of the tracks from "Here It Is!" found its way on to "Abuse Your Friends #4" from legendary underground label Velocity Recordings last year.

Variously described as "an absolute stormer" and "The Mother of All Pop Albums", 'seen from space' has already attracted a lot of attention from local press and radio. The boys will play some UK gigs through the summer to promote the album, before heading back to New York in September, and Italy in November.

Reviews

Seen From Space is power pop that it's ok to like. This is quite a nice little debut from this 3-piece and sounds like everyone and no one at the same time; the Beatles, Supergrass and Kaiser Chiefs all fall off the tongue. It's just shiny happy indie music, 'No Way Bak' is a Pulp like analogue "No way forward/there's no turning back/your self defence begins to crack". Mising Motown and soul surprisingly successfully, they stomp aling with the stand out track 'Here It Is!', and this will no doubt be gracing our radio waves very soon, and with the sun still trying its best to stay put, it'll be a very welcome place for us and OTR. '2A' decides to take things a little more seriously and 'Nothing Like You' becomes a rock stomp, but even when they try to be loud and brash, they're just suckers for that old musical thing called a melody.

This month sees the release of Seen From Space, OffTheRadar's fantastic new 12-track album. Released through Velocity Recordings at the end of April, rumour has it that the album will also be released in the U.S. later on in the year. If, like me, you were expecting an indie-pop album full of jingly guitars, sweet vocals, and a perfect selection of sha la la handclap choruses to die for, then you won't be disappointed, but there is much more to Seen From Space than that.

There are a few songs that I seem to remember more because I've heard them live, and Yeah Yeah is one of them: it's a low-key, poppy, Beatles-esque track, with slick harmonic vocals and a slightly ethereal quality. It's very cool, very mellow and the stand-out track for me.

A number of the songs are wonderfully compulsive examples of brilliant power pop, but tracks like Nothing Like You still manage to be smooth and subtly endearing. Out To Dry is is like the soundtrack to the ride home at the end of a long night out, a harmonic low-key melancholic joyous affair. V838 Mono is just great, and would sound SO good on the radio - are you reading this Ms Wiley?

Off TheRadar have shown promise in the past, but this is the album where it really comes together. Seen From Space feels and sounds totally self-confident, like they've finally realised what they're capable of. Although it'd still just the three of them, somehow they've managed to create a bigger, brasher, fuller sound than on their previous recordings. The whole album has a heart of gold. It's one of those rare albums that doesn't try to be pretentious, that doesn't want to change the world, but is perfect to serenade to. It's an absolute stormer - mellow, life affirming, and essential. Buy your copy today.
