Band Biography

Brothers Jon (lead vocals/guitar) and Andrew (drums) were formerly with pop guitar hopefuls Gel, who were personally signed by Seymour Stein to his world-famous Sire record label, home of Madonna, The Undertones,The Ramones and Ice-T.

Chloe (vocals/keyboards) meanwhile, used to front the 'legendary' Period Pains, who scored a minor hit with a song about how much they hated the Spice Girls? By the time the three of them had hooked up with Tom (guitar/vocals) and Bob (bass) to form The Sunset Sound, they must have started to feel like veterans - even though the average age of the band has only just hit the wrong side of 20. Their debut single, Moving, picked up airplay on radio stations including Radio 1, XFM and LA's KROQ. And an appearance at the Reading Festival helped raise their profile and earn them some glowing reviews for their "sugary sweet swaggering guitars" and "breezy, sophisticated harmonised guitar pop"?It's a bit like the Beach Boys playing Nirvana, only a bit less angsty, so maybe Nirvana singing the Beach Boys." Weekender, Reading Chronicle.

Chloe, Jon and Andrew went onto form Pure Reason Revolution, who have now been signed to SonyBMG.

Reviews

The Sunset Sound peddle the kind of swirly pop song that the phrase 'ear candy' was invented for. This we like.
Catherine Chambers - Kerrang!

Velocity Records seem to be right on the money when it comes to releasing nu-metal. But can it work for them with guitar pop? After the success of SugarComa across virtually all the metal magazines, the Sunset Sound bring us their debut limited single, produced by Harvey Birrel (Therapy?, J&MC). It certainly won't attract the same crowd as their labelmates, but the harmonies and pop sensibilities might just attract a slightly, dare we say it, younger audience.
Record Collector

Quality pop from a new band who formed out of the ashes of Gel (check out that Gel album that finally came out - it was rather ignored) and The Period Pains - the sound of teenage rebellion growing up and moving on. They still have those qualities that made Gel so good and you could indeed describe it as the sunset sound, especially the third mellow Beach Boys end-of-the-day melancholic track "Three Girl Project". Breezy sophisticated harmonized guitar pop that mixes Green Day with Beach Boys and that little extra that they've always threatened ? this deserves to be all over the radio - already far better than Ash.
