Who are they? A feisty nu-metal foursome from London.
When did they form? March of last year [1999]
What do they sound like? A shouty Lacuna Coil jamming Nirvana covers with Pantera...
Dan Lanev - Metal Hammer
Single Of The Week winners go live in London. In the hot confines of the Water Rats, word has it that East London's Sugar Coma are the British equivalent of Kittle? Comprising three, sultry 16-year-old girls on bass, guitars and vocals and one (very lucky) young sticksman, the four-piece exude confidence. There's nothing wrong with their actual musicianship or stage presence. Singer Jess is an impressive frontwoman, conversing with the crowd and joking with her band mates. The problem is that, musically, they're no more than nu-metal by numbers.Catherine Chambers - Kerrang!
"SAYS ON THE TICKETS THAT THE DOORS OPEN AT 7.30pm. So, how come SugarComa [6] actually went on at 7.15pm and finish their set a mere four songs later? How's a guy supposed to drool... er, sorry, review a band in these conditions? Call me dedicated, but I was there early enough to catch 90 per cent of the set - unlike half of the eventual audience - and what I saw and heard pleased me. True, much like their Canadian contemporaries Kittle (not a comparison, just an observation), and Silverchair before them, SugarComa are growing up in public. In truth, there's nothing startlingly original about what they're doing, but the intent seems to be there. But, they do seem to hold the audience's attention."Joseph Kerr - The Academy Manchester - Metalhammer.
