Band Biography

Nathan Dobson (Bass), Paul Rogers (Drums) and Stephen Greer (Vocals) have been friends and musical compadres since they were 18, spending endless nights in the company of Mogwai/ Godspeed You Black Emperor/Warp Records/Doors/Stone Roses. The line-up is completed by the enigmatic Captain Beefheart/Tom Waits influenced Mark Silk (Piano/Hammond/Moog) and latest addition Adrian Dollomore (Guitars).

The band released their first EP, Bring Me Back Safe (Velocity Recordings), to critical acclaim in 2004, being voted ?Top Fresh meat? by listeners of Zane Lowe?s Radio 1 show. They have since had some self-imposed time in the shadows, writing and recording new material, and will be releasing something special in early 2005.

"Polar Remote are like all great bands: a dissolute group of dissatisfied people, pulled together by a mutual love for intense, life changing music that resonates through you? very soul. No one could imagine that the rolling hills of middle England could spawn such intensity and drive. Polar Remote are a band that won't be happy until they've ripped your heart from your chest, and made you admire it in all its frailty.

With the rest of the country engrossed in emo and garage rock. Polar Remote has focused on their own brand of wonder, a deep and intricate music with sweeping melodies, interlaced with alternately melancholy and exuberant vocals, and the euphoric piano. This band can write songs that worship the skill of John Coltrane and Miles Davis, celebrate the orchestral wonder of GSYBE, and bow to the poetic beauty of Pink Floyd, all in the same breath. It is in their live performance that Polar Remote truly excels, shunning ail pretence of image and attitude, they can take to the stage and soar beyond the audience like avenging angels."

"Four out of five"
James Parrish - Drowned in Sound

"'Bring Me Back Safe' EP, recently released on Velocity Recordings, suggests that the world might just be ready for the lush, melodic landscape that is Polar Remote."
Josaka

"This EP is bloody brilliant?buy it".
JOYZINE

"It takes a few listens before the quality of Bring Me Back Safe becomes apparent, but there is an awful lot going on in this song. Opening with a crash, your ears are exposed to off-beat drumming, a melodic guitar and a multitude of clicks, bleeps, buzzes, bangs and all kinds of weird and wonderful electronic sounds. Comparisons with Radiohead, Mogwai and Flaming Lips are obvious, but Polar Remote are searching for their own sound and they might just get it."
Wokingham Chronicle

"Musically, they continue to distance themselves from the familiarity of the contemporary scene. The dynamics of Polar Remote are second-to-none ? from the gentle tinkering piano-led tracks to the swirling, seismic sonics, an ever-changing drum beat and tempo, bass lines that reverberate round your ears and the spectrum of guitar effects used to great outcome. The music gradually envelops you, draws you in, toys with your imagination and then leaves you begging for more, while singer Stephen belts out the lyrics with utmost emotion and conviction."
